Universal Works Duke Pant - Indigo 13oz Selvedge Denim

Wide-leg denim, single front pleat, fixed waistband, slight taper, button fly. The Duke Pant is the most considered piece in the Universal Works range, and probably the most considered trouser we stocked for opening.

The denim is 13oz narrow loom red selvedge, woven slowly on shuttle looms, the same process used to make American jeans in the mid-20th century. A handful of small mills in Japan still run this way. The fabric is organic cotton, indigo-dyed yarn over undyed natural yarn, which means the colour sits on the surface and fades unevenly over time, the way good denim should. The red selvedge edge shows at the cuff when turned up. It's stiff when new, softens and stretches with wear, develops its own patina. The kind of thing you notice more the longer you own it. Made in Portugal by a denim maker Universal Works has worked with since 2011.

Care

Machine wash at 30 degrees. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. Cool iron. Do not dry clean. Wash separately. Some colour transfer onto lighter garments and furniture is normal until the denim has settled.

Fit notes

Wide, loose leg. We have this in a 38 waist only. The raw denim will stretch slightly with wear and washing. Measurements taken from the garment laid flat.

Outside leg includes waistband. Thigh measured 2.5cm below crotch. All measurements in cm. Measurements based on comparable stockist data, not measured directly from this garment. Contact us if you'd like the garment measured.
