By 1961 Edwin was making their own, the first jeans manufactured in Japan, 16oz ringspun denim with a three-colour rainbow selvedge so heavy it could stand upright after washing. In the 1970s Edwin invented the old wash, an abrasion process that reproduced the faded look of well-worn denim without the years of wear. Stone washing came next.
